In 2007, a year after retiring from my full-time job of 33 years, I attended Celebrate West Hartford and happened upon the Seniors Job Bank booth. I was thinking about a part-time job, and SJB was just the resource I needed.

In November, I went through my informal interview process with the Seniors Job Bank and within 3 days I received a job notification for a part-time job opening in the business office at a local non-profit organization. I found SJB to be helpful in connecting me to my part-time “retirement” job that continued for 8 years.

I retired again in 2016. As a member of The Old Guard, a local fellowship and service organization, I found others who volunteered at the Seniors Job Bank and ultimately, I was asked to join the SJB Board. I have been a Board member for 7 years, currently serving as Treasurer where I also continue as a volunteer utilizing my business and finance skills.

Choosing to work well into my retirement years is something I enjoy. The Seniors Job Bank is a valuable resource connecting older adults with these fulfilling opportunities.

Regards, Del Shilkret, SJB Board Treasurer
